Golf in Sarawak is set to reach greater heights with an ever upward progression initiated by the Sarawak Golf Association and is strongly supported by the golf clubs in its region.
The Sarawak Amateur Open Golf Championship being one of the most prestigious events among the Sarawak Golf Association’s sanctioned events will be held at Kelab Golf Miri this year from April 27th to 29th.
This 3-days event is a 54 holes gross over nett championship. A total of 165 participants of which 29 are ladies will be vying for the championship. The first two days will be the qualifying rounds with 36 men and 12 lady participants fighting for the final round on the third day. This championship also sets as a platform for selection of 7 qualifiers to participate the 110th Malaysian Amateur Open held from 24th to 27th May 2012.
This year’s competitors will face stiff challenges as there are more than 30 golfers whose handicaps range from as low +1 to 5 from all over Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, West Malaysia and as far as Hong Kong competing in this auspicious tournament.
There will be a hole-in-one prize offered of a Chevrolet Colorado 2.8AT sponsored by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Jimmy Lau.
At the handing over ceremony of the mock key, KGM Captain Cr. Dr. Philip Raja specially acknowledged and thanked Tan Sri Datuk Jimmy Lau and Sarawak Shell Berhad for their relentless support and generosity granted to him and the Club in particular, all these years.
He also conveyed his most sincere gratitude and thanks to the Patron of the Sarawak Men Amateur Open Golf Championship, Mr. Richard Wong Shoon Fook, the Sarawak Golf Association led the President, Mr. Patrick Chieng and his very able committee members, as well as all the various golf clubs namely, Damai Golf & Country Club, Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Kelab Golf Bintulu, Kelab Golf Sarawak, Kelab Golf Sibu, Sarawak Club Golf Resort, Kelab Golf Penjara, Sarawak Junior Golf First Association and lastly, the Senior Golfer’s Society of Sarawak for their generous contributions to making this event possible.
